“meditation continues to blow my mind”

“555 days in a row meditating. 619 days with at least one session. My Insight Timer stats. It is a little paradoxical that I’m keeping so close track of something so not tied to numbers, counts, and balances.  I switched from doing guided meditations to meditating with the timer only. What I wanted to say is that I get it! Meditating with focus only on my breath is so significantly different from listening to someone talk to me. It is deeper and calmer and has changed me so much more than I expected. So what I want to say is THANK YOU. Thank you for teaching me to meditate. "manage my stress” 

 Over the past few years, I’ve taken on several challenges, I started a new business and am the Chief Revenue Officer, I have made a much greater effort to improve my physical fitness and I was hoping to become more conscientious of my mental health (understandably, we all have our issues). It was just about one year ago (1 year and 11 days), that I approached Anne,  and asked if you could give me an introduction to Meditation – I had a few stereotypical preconceptions as to what meditation was about – most involved the thought of “clearing your mind” – which is where I had to get off the train – knowing that at least for me,  this is impossible. 

Within the first few moments of meeting with Anne Sussman, She assured me  that this widely held notion  was indeed inaccurate and virtually impossible.  Instead, Anne kept it very simple, instructing me to sit comfortably, focus on breathing – in and out.  What I came to understand was that the longer you sit and pay attention to  that simple task – the less your mind is occupied by the ongoing clutter that we all contend with.

I’ve often described my brain as a blender, with thought and ideas churning at a high velocity – while I still would say that this description is on point – meditation has given me the daily opportunity to slow things down a bit and catch a breath and manage my stress in a way I was not able to do before adopting this practice.  – for this, I am truly grateful.
